In Jamestown, at the east end of Narragansett Avenue, is this non-specific war memorial.
The monument is on the east end of downtown Jamestown, and is located right at the edge of the ocean. There is a small parking lot nearby, off Canonicus Avenue. The monument is a square monolith made of granite, about 7 feet high. It is roughly hewn on two sides and a little smoother on the other two. The side facing town has the following text engraved:
"Dedicated to the Veterans of Jamestown whose patriotic and honorable service in our nation's wars and conflicts is remembered by a grateful community"
The other side has no text.
The monument is surrounded by brick lined with granite borders with text stating that the monument was rededicated on Memorial Day, May 26, 1997. In the brick island are engraved stones of people. There is a flagpole in back of this monument, too, also surrounded by a brick island and engraved stones. Other islands have engraved bricks of various wars.
