The KENSEY JOHNS, JR. HOUSE, NE. corner of Delaware and 4th Sts., was built in  1823.  Of brick with original treatment of cornice and roof, it has the characteristic restraint and elegance of its period.

Kensey Johns, Jr. (1791-1857) succeeded his father as Chancellor when the later resigned in 1832.- Delaware: A Guide to the First State, 1938, pg 244-245.

The house is as described in the Guide.  It is in very good condition and continues to serve as a private residence.
