In Jamestown, within the Beavertail State Park, is this compass rose at the point.
The compass rose is located on the foundation of the old lighthouse tower. To get there, from the entrance to the park, park in the parking lot before the lighthouse and walk around the lighthouse. The foundation is in front, within sight. When I was there (May 2014), there was no fee to enter the park. I'm not sure if there is one on 'prime time.'
If there is fog at the time of your visit, then be aware that the fog horn - a green box that sort of looks like a utility box, faces the compass rose and is VERY LOUD. This is speaking from experience!! Also be careful when climbing around the rocks.
The foundation is a cylindrical formation of stones. The formation is flat on top, and the rose is painted on top of this. The design has four black/beige points set inside a red circle. There is a letter for each point.
I'm not sure when this was painted, but it looks recent as it is in great condition. The setting is very scenic, with a view of the mouth of Narragansett Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
