This is one of a pair of
John Deere Sulky Plows out front of the museum. Both two bottom plows, the major difference between the two is that this plow is a two way plow, with a left and a right share, which allows the farmer to plow in both directions.
The idea is that the farmer may, by alternating which share is put to use, return up the field on the same furrow he just came down. It works this way because a normal plow will turn the ground in one direction only, and when the plow is turned around, the plow would turn the ground in the direction opposite to what it had just done, which is not a desirable thing. This design was a leap forward in simplifying a farmer's life. More advanced designs based on this concept are still made today.
The museum is on Round Butte Road at the corner of 6th Avenue NW. on the west edge of the town of Ronan, MT.
