The Garden of the Rockies Museum in Ronan has a bunch of cool old stuff outside, including several pieces of old farm machinery, of which this hay rake is one.

This dump rake is one of the better looking, read less deteriorated, machines at this museum. It has recently been painted bright red and yellow and really catches the eye. Manufacturer and date of manufacture of this dump rake are unknown. Quite possibly horse drawn when new, it was the type of advancement in farm machinery that saved the farmer many hours of laborious raking and hay gathering. Of course, it was to be followed by even more advanced machines that eliminated the physical labor altogether.

This model has horizontal bars under the rake tines that, when the tines are raised, forces the hay to dump, prevent or minimizing any hang-ups.

The museum is on Round Butte Road at the corner of 6th Avenue NW. on the west edge of the town of Ronan, MT.
