The department is manned by 10 paid members and 15 volunteers. In the first five months of 2014 the department responded to 520 calls, the vast majority being EMS calls. Nineteen calls took them to actual fires of various nature.

On November 26, 1900, the city experienced its worst fire, the "Demon Fire", wiping out most of the downtown business district. Strangely, it wasn't until almost three years later, on May 23, 1903 that the fire department was formed. On August 9, 1908 they bought their first motorized fire truck, a two ton Nash pumper for $2402. On September 4, 1918 they purchased their second fire truck, a two ton motorized Nash fire hose and ladder truck with solid rubber tires.
