After a drunken fight on a Russian trawler, a crew member, Vladimir Ivanov, runs away thinking he has killed the Captain. He asks Nick Rowan for political asylum. When he is handed over to immigration officer Fillingham, he makes a break for it. Whilst on the run he steals the lunch of Dr Radcliffe’s daughter, Jennifer. Jennifer and her friend Dennis try to follow Ivanov, but they fall down the cliff.
Ivanov eventually makes his way to a Russian Orthodox priest. Rowan catches up with him and tells him the Captain is still alive. Nick and Greengrass arrange to get the sailor back on the boat without Fillingham finding out, in which they succeed. Meanwhile Blaketon has search parties out looking for Jennifer. They succeed in finding Jennifer and Dennis.
