Das Rathaus Dessau ist ein
1910 nach Plänen
des Architekturbüros Reinhardt und Süßenguthaus Charlottenburg erbautes Wahrzeichen der
Stadt Dessau in der Zerbster Straße 4 und heute Sitz der
Stadtverwaltung von Dessau-Roßlau. Der Rathausturm ist mit einer
Gesamthöhe von 73 Metern der höchste Turm in Dessau. Über 160 Stufen
führen auf eine in 42 Metern Höhe gelegene Aussichtsplattform.
Am Ort des heutigen Rathauses befand sich im 13. Jahrhundert ein
Kaufhaus, welches gegen Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts vom damaligen
Landesherren, Fürst Bernhard III., der Familie Dreycken
als Erblehen übergeben worden war. 1323 wird urkundlich
erstmals ein Rat der Stadt Dessau erwähnt. Am 12. März 1336 wurde
das Lehen von den FürstenAlbrecht und Waldemar der Stadt
Dessau übertragen. Das Gebäude wurde von der Bürgerschaft zu ihren
Versammlungen genutzt und ist daher als das erste Rathaus anzusehen.
Über die weitere Geschichte des Hauses ist nichts bekannt. Es ist
jedoch wahrscheinlich, dass es 1467 abbrannte. Auch ein Nachfolgebau
scheint durch Brand zerstört worden zu sein.
Das dritte Dessauer Rathaus, mit einer großen und kleinen Ratsstube,
einem Ratssaal, sowie einer Rüst- und Schatzkammer in den
Obergeschossen und dem Ratskeller im Untergeschoss, wurde
1563 errichtet. Vor dem Gebäude befand sich ein, mit einer Haube
gekrönter, achteckiger Turm, in welchem eine Wendeltreppe in
die oberen Geschossen führte. Das Turmportal hatte einen Löwenkopf als
Schlussstein eines Halbkreisbogens, zwei konsolenartigen Menschenköpfe
und das in Stein gehauene Stadtwappen mit der Jahreszahl 1563. Der
Giebel am Markt enthielt die Stadtuhr mit Glocke. 1601 erhielt der
Ratskeller ein Eingangsportal mit
einem Gesims, Obelisken und Bodengiebel mit Muschel.
1883 wurde das Gebäude umgebaut. Es stellte sich jedoch bald heraus,
dass die neu geschaffenen Räumlichkeiten nicht ausreichten, um die
Verwaltung aufzunehmen. Im Jahre 1885 musste ein Zimmer vom Ratskeller
und 1887 ein Geschoss eines Nachbarhauses mitgenutzt werden. Am 27.
April 1895 beschloss daher der Gemeinderat die Errichtung

The Town Hall Dessau is a 1910 according to the plans of the

meters, the highest tower in Dessau. About 160 steps lead up to a

At the site of the present town hall was located in the 13th century, a
department store, which towards the end of the 13th century by the then

hereditary fief. 1323 a Council of the City of Dessau was first
mentioned. On March 12, 1336, the fief was transferred from the Prince
Waldemar Albrecht and the city of Dessau. The building was used by the
citizens to their meetings and is therefore to be regarded as the first
town hall. About the further history of the house is not known.
However, it is likely that it burned down in 1467. A successor building
seems to have been destroyed by fire.
The third Dessau town hall, with a large and small council chamber, a
council chamber, and a set-up and Treasury on the upper floors and the
Council cellar in the basement, was built in 1563. Before the building
was one himself, with a hood-winning, octagonal tower, in which a
spiral staircase led to the upper floors. The tower portal had a lion's
head as capstone of a semicircular arc, two console-like human heads
carved in stone and the City Arms with the year 1563rd The gable on the
market contained the town clock with bell. 1601 was awarded the Council
a basement entrance with a cornice, obelisks and floor pediment with
shell.
1883, the building was rebuilt. However, it soon turned out that the
newly created space not sufficient to accommodate the administration.
In 1885 had a room by the Council cellar and 1887 a basement of a
neighbor's house be shared. On April 27, 1895, therefore, the municipal
council decided the construction of a new building |
