Residing on a grassy knoll in front of the current University Preparatory School (a charter school) is a multi-war memorial that is dedicated to former students of Shasta Union High School/Nova High School who gave the Ultimate Sacrifice. The memorial includes the deceased names of students who fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The list of fatalities of former students of Shasta Union High School who fought in WWII is long. There is only one fatality listed under the Korean War. His name John A Carlson Jr.
This memorial is a somber reminder of the sacrifices a number of young men made for our country who once walked through the hallways of this school.
