Harry Potter is the only survivor of an attack by Voldermort on the Potter family. Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts, leaves the baby Potter at the home of the Dursley family.
Ten years later letters start arriving at the Dursley house, inviting Harry Potter to Hogwarts. Despite Mr Dursley’s best efforts at keeping the letters from Harry, Hagrid arrives and takes Harry away to Hogwarts via London. In London he is kitted out with school supplies and boards the Hogwarts Express.
On the Hogwarts Express Harry makes friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The trio are assigned to Gryffindor, whilst the sinister Malfoy is assigned to Slitherin. Harry has a run in with Malfoy at the first flying lesson. Malfoy snatches a possession of a boy called Neville and Harry challenges Malfoy. Harry’s antics on a flying broomstick get him selected to play for Griffindor at quidditch.
Harry, Ron and Hermione defeat a troll at Halloween and Harry goes on to win the quidditch match, despite Snape’s influence. At Christmas the trio turn sleuth and discover that a three headed dog is guarding the Philosopher’s Stone that confers eternal life. The Stone used to be the property of Nicolas Flamel, Dumbledore’s old partner.
Some time later the trio do a favour for Hagrid, but get caught. As part of their punishment they have to go into the enchanted forest. There Harry finds a man drinking unicorn blood. The man tries to attack Harry, but is saved by a centaur. Harry learns that the man was Voldermort and that he is trying to steal the Stone. Harry, Ron and Hermione decide to find the Stone before Voldermort. That night they manage to get around the three headed dog, and various other obstacles to get close to the Stone.
Between Harry and the Stone is Quirrell. Quirrell puts Harry in front of the mirror of Erised. When Harry looks in the mirror he feels the Stone in his pocket. He lies to Quirrell and Quirrell turns round to reveal Voldermort’s face on the back of Quirrell’s head. Voldermort instructs Quirrell to kill Harry, but Harry manages to burn Quirrell. Harry passes out.
Harry awakes in the hospital. Dumbledore explains that he saved Harry. Dumbledore and Flamel have agreed to destroy the Stone.
