--------------
This 1874 gilded bronze statue depicts Joan of Arc on horseback with her right hand holding high a victorious banner. Joan is wearing armor and has a sword at her left side. The horse is also wearing some armor around it's face. The statue is 13 feet tall and is set on a stone pedestal of about the same height.
The French artist, Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910), was actually mostly known for his sculptures of animals.
Joan of Arc, (c.1412-1431) was a peasant girl who had divine visions which not only helped her to persuade the French King to let her lead an army- but also led her to victories during the Hundred Years War. The English eventually got ahold of her and burned her at the stake for supposed heresies. She is considered a national hero in France and was canonized as a Saint in 1920.
