The old Northam Station was opened in November 1900 and closed when the standard guage line was open between Perth and Kalgoorlie on 14th February 1966, with the last passenger train leaving for Perth at 2.30 that afternoon. The single-storey, brick, iron and timber building was completed during the gold boom period of Western Australia in the
Federation Free architecture style with italianate chimneys and the platform and entrance verandahs have wide eaves supported on timber posts set into tapering, concrete bases.
