In Maya, Kankirixché means “tree with yellow fruit”. Cenote Kankirixché boasts the beauty of stalactites and stalagmites as well as alamo tree roots. Bring your swimming goggles - - you will be delighted to see the spectacular underwater galleries. This cenote is most spectacular in mid-day when the sun beams into the cave. A cenote (Maya = dzonot ) is a natural sinkhole created after limestone bedrock collapses exposing the water underneath. There are various types of cenotes. This cenote is a semi-underground cenote. The ancient Maya sometimes used cenotes for their water source, ceremonies, or sacrificial offerings.
