Many North Texans visit the lake which bears his name, without knowing who he was, and Roberts is probably best known for having succeeded Sam Rayburn in the U.S. House of Representatives. Interestingly, he and his wife were in the motorcade in Dallas on November 22, 1963, when President Kennedy was assassinated.
