The National Bank of Australia opened as the first bank in Northam,in July 1888 , In 1908, another new building was positioned immediately in front of the old building. The National Bank occupied the front building until 1938. The building was later used by the Shire of Northam as it's Council Offices from 1978 until 2000. The 1908 two storey red brick building has a rendered facade with an ornamental plasterwork arch over the door and is in the Federation Free Classical style,
