Marker Name: Poplar Heights School No. 51 Languages: English Location: Road 15 W 2.5 km south of Hwy 227 Marker Text: Poplar Heights School No. 51 A log school was built on NW 1/4 22.13.3w. and opened in spring 1879. It was replaced in 1880 with another log building on SW 1/4 22.13.3W. In 1888 a frame school was built on NW 1/4 16.13.3w. It served until 1918. The last frame school was erected on SE 1/4 16.13.3W. opening in Sept. This building was the centre for education and social activities teas, dances, showers. It was the polling station on election day and sometimes church on Sundays. After consolidation of schools it became Reaburn Heights Community Centre. This cairn is dedicated to the memory of the students, teachers and pioneers of Poplar Heights School District No: 51.
