Auftraggeber: Stadtrat der Stadt Dessau
In Dessau befand sich der
Hauptproduktionsort für Zyklon B. Mit dem
Schädlingsbekämpfungsmittel wurden in Auschwitz und
anderen Vernichtungslagern Millionen Menschen ermordet. Die
Forschungsgruppe Zyklon B hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die regionalen
Aspekte der Produktion und des Transports des Giftgases bis zu seiner
Anwendung in den Konzentrationslagern zu untersuchen. Das Befragen von
Zeitzeugen, das Studium von Sekundärliteratur, der Kontakt zu
anderen Institutionen und Forschungsgruppen, die auf diesem Gebiet
tätig sind, gehört genau so dazu, wie Archivarbeit
und die Sichtung diverser Prozessakten.
Durch Informationsveranstaltungen über die recherchierten
Forschungsergebnisse haben wir in der Vergangenheit versucht, die
regionale Öffentlichkeit für das Thema zu
sensibilisieren. Darüber hinaus ist es in einem jahrelangen
Prozess und gegen politischen Widerstand gelungen, der Stadt Dessau
endlich ein Bekenntnis zum historischen Fakt der Zyklon B-Produktion in
der Muldestadt abzuringen. Im Januar 2005 wurde der Informations- und
Dokumentationspunkt Zyklon B in Dessau als öffentliches
Mahnmal eröffnet.

Reason: the misuse of the pesticide manufactured in the Dessau sugar refinery for extermination by the
Nazi party

Initiation and participation:
Research Group Zyklon B
Client: City Council of the City of Dessau
In Dessau was the main production site for Zyklon B.
The pesticide million people were murdered in Auschwitz and other
extermination camps. The research group Zyklon B has set itself the
objective to investigate the regional aspects of the production and
transport of toxic gas to its application in the concentration camps.
The questioning of witnesses, the study of secondary literature,
contact with other institutions and research groups that are active in
this field belongs, exactly how archival research, and reviews of
various court documents.
Through information sessions on the research results researched, we
have tried in the past to sensitize the local public to the subject. In
addition, it has been possible in a year-long process and against
political resistance, finally wrest the city of Dessau a commitment to
the historical fact of the Zyklon B production in the basin center. In
January 2005, the information and documentation point Zyklon B was
opened in Dessau as a public memorial.
