This cemetery is less than .1 mile south of the Missouri line. It can be difficult to find, mainly because the road maps show roads that do
not go through. Bella Vista was planned as a resort town and streets laid out on the maps; but some streets at the extremities were never built, and some were taken over as private roads. It took me 3 attempts to find this cemetery.
- You cannot get to it from the south: Kirkpatrick Road takes you to Pamona Drive, but that does not connect to a North Mount Pleasant Road, which only exists on the maps!
- Nor from the southwest: Balmora Drive, which shows a bunch of side roads -- which don't exist -- as it heads north, actually turns into a private road long before it gets to that first fictional side road, shown as McIntyre Lane on the maps.
- Nor from the west: Edinburgh road seems to go all the way to Highlands Boulevard. However, it also has a private property sign not long after you get onto Edinburgh Road from Highlands Boulevard.
- And there is no road at all, not even on the inaccurate maps, from the north.
The only way to get to it is from the east, taking Edinburgh Road. The last turn may require an off-road 4WD vehicle at some times of the year. (Not all 4WD vehicles are off road!) So that your GPSr does not try to take you on the blocked and nonexistent roads, you might want to
- Plot a course to N36°29.605',W094°20.777' on Edinburgh Road, and keep on going west.
- You will pass the last house directly by Edinburgh Road at about N36°29.710',W94°21.508', though there are some homes hidden down Drayton Lane and Macduff Lane.
- You will pass many named but undeveloped roads. Very mysterious.
But set your course to N36°29.834',W94°22.830', which is after Edinburgh turns into a gravel road. This is the point where you turn north on Loma Drive.
- Drive north to a "parking area" (wider spot in the 2-track) at about N36°29.893',W94°22.844'.
The cemetery is due east of that last point. I would suggest that you
not take Loma Drive east and back down to Edinburgh, unless you have an off-road 4WD vehicle like I have. Although the maps show named side roads, Loma Drive is just two ruts in the mud. [I took Loma Drive going to the cemetery (turning off of Edinburgh going west), then down to Edinburgh Road after finding the cemetery; because I didn't know any better.]
FindAGrave reports 7 interments at Beavers Cemetery, though it only reports one Lewis Beavers, whilst there are 2 grave markers for Lewis Beavers present, and neither is a foot stone. On is really fancy with birth and death dates, and one simply says Lewis Beavers. Some markers only have a name with no date, and some are not legible as to name or date, but the FindAGrave researchers were able to find obituaries for the seven recorded graves. The oldest recorded grave is from 1905 and the latest is from 1916. It is unusual to find such a small cemetery with burials in that short of year range.
