"Beat the Devil" a 1953 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Jennifer Jones, is one of several made on location in Ravello. In this scene Mr. Bogart (Billy Dannreuther) is seated on a donkey and welcoming a friend to Ravello.

We made an effort to recreate the scene with the Duomo's (cathedral's) cross over the right shoulder. Even did it in black and white!!

A sign indicates the location of the filming in the northwest corner of the piazza that bustles with tourists during the day and locals in the evening. The sign states a quote from the director, John Huston about the film crew's stay in Ravello: Every night, sometimes all Saturday night until Sunday morning at dawn, the cast and crew played poker. When Truman and I weren't working on the script, we were at the poker table. Bogie and I were the bosses. Bob Capa, who was there to shoot publicity shots, and Truman were our main victims. They didn't earn much from the film work since we regularly cleaned them out of all their earnings.
