This pub is situated at the end of The Peak Forest Canal and unsurprisingly has a canal themed sign.

The sign shows a traditional canal narrow boat named Janet. It is painted in the type of colours of these boats. Although the main pub sign on the wall says the Navigation Inn, the name on the sign itself simply says Navigation.
Canals used to be known as navigations, and many canal side pubs are called The Navigation.
On the other side of the pub, there is a hand painted sign that simply lists the facilities of the pub, but has been painted in the traditional canal boat colours and lettering style.
The pub stands next to the upper basin at the end of the canal. The basin was a busy industrial complex with limestone and grit stone brought down from nearby quarries by a tramway and the loaded onto the canal boats. There were also 19 lime canals burning limestone to convert it into quick lime. The site ceased working in the 1920s, but has been renovated and it reopened in 2003.
These days it is a peaceful, but popular site and serves locals from the nearby village of Buxworth and visitors to the canal basin. However according to the pub's website the pub is 200 years old and presumably in those days would have been mainly used by the workers on the site.
