This 33-foot tall granite obelisk stands at the center of Oregon's new World War II memorial. It is located in Willson Park, at the west end of the Oregon State Capitol grounds in Salem, Oregon. The obelisk weighs 15 tons and was placed with the help of a crane. It is a distinctive feature of the new memorial, which in total was completed at a cost of $1.2 million. According to the memorial plaque, it is dedicated to "all Oregonians who faithfully served both here at home and overseas during World War II.
