Mr Middleditch is away and Nigel Harper from the NHS decides to take over and investigate things. Ken Hopkirk is particularly miffed with Mr Harper as he stops a decorating contract for the hospital, which Ken arranged for his mate. In revenge Ken follows up a cowboy builder that a patient is complaining about. Ken gives the dodgy builder the wink to tender for the painting job. He undercuts Ken’s mate, but runs off with £50 of hospital funds, putting Mr Harper in a mess.
Dr Weatherill has to treat the dog of a lonely hypochondriac and Dr Cheriton intervenes in the case of a suicidal patient who is receiving ECT treatment. Dr Ormerod is still worried by his wife and is comforted by Jill Weatherill in the Italian Gardens.
