At the place of the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary was originally located a Gothic church built in the middle of the 14th century. After several reconstructions, was here built a spacious three-nave Neo-Romanesque basilica including a tower according to the design of architect Ludvík Labler in 1897-1899. The new archdeaconary church, the major Catholic church of Kladno county, was ceremoniously consecrated on June 6, 1900.
In church's antechapel you can find figural gravestone of Jirí Ždárský of Ždár, important member of noble family, in which possesion was Kladno demesne in 1543-1670. During the second half of the XXth century was church in very bad shape, but after complete reconstruction in the last years of the century it glitters once again in its pure Neo-Romanesque beauty. The church was reconsecrated by Archbishop of Prague, Cardinal M. Vlk in June 6, 2000...
