Simon Delancey is a con man that defrauds little old ladies. He is on the run and holes up in a B&B run by Cassandra and Jacqui. Cassandra and Jacqui ran a fan group for the 1980s group Venus Hunters. Simon was a leading light in the Venus Hunters and the girls want him to reform the group for a performance on the Jools Holland show. Simon doesn’t want to do it, but the girls seize his luggage with £20,000 in it to make him cooperate.

Simon doesn’t know where the group are, but knows where Charlie’s mother lives. Charlie’s mother is upset and won’t talk about Charlie. She does direct the trio to a pub. There they find Charlie has become Charlotte and is a singer in a gay bar. Charlotte is persuaded to go along with the band reunion and she tells them where to find Peter. Peter is doing quite well and has a swish office. The group visit Peter and Charlotte persuades him to join them. Whilst at Peter’s office John, the guitarist calls round as a plumber. He also joins the group.

The final band member is John’s brother, Gavin. Gavin is in a mental institution and the group have to break him out to join them. Having the complete group together, they retire to Peter’s mansion to rehearse. They were going to mime to a tape, but the tape breaks. Simon has to rehearse the group all night, but they are eventually ready for the BBC studios. The gig goes well, but Simon gets arrested as he comes off stage.
