This first building of what was to become TWU is still with us, still in use, and very well-maintained. The dome is not hard to spot.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1935 (CAS) THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS THE DOME ON THE CENTER OF THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING AT THE COLLEGE OF INDUSTRIAL ARTS, IN THE TOWN OF DENTON, TEXAS. IT IS ON THE E SIDE OF THE CAMPUS, ABOUT 310 FEET W OF BELL AVENUE, AND ABOUT 0.2 MILE N OF TEXAS AVENUE. IT WAS ERECTED IN 1901 AND IS QUITE PROMINENT. THE DOME IS ON A YELLOW BRICK BUILDING ABOUT 80 FEET HIGH. ON THE TOP OF THE BUILDING THERE IS A RED BRICK BASE ABOUT 6 FEET HIGH WITH A WHITE RAIL, AND URNS AT EACH CORNER. ON THIS BASE THERE IS A WHITE CONCRETE TOWER ABOUT 8 FEET HIGH. THIS TOWER IS OCTAGONAL IN SHAPE, WITH TWO SQUARE LOUVRED WINDOWS IN ONE FACE ALTERNATING WITH TWO SQUARE GLAZED WINDOWS IN THE NEXT. THE TOP IS A HUGE HEAVILY-RIBBED SILVER DOME ABOUT 12 FEET HIGH, WITH A BALL AT ITS APEX. THE TOTAL HEIGHT IS ABOUT 110 FEET.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1979 (DAH) RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED IN GOOD CONDITION. THE COLLEGE IS NOW THE TEXAS WOMANS UNIVERSITY AND THE BUILDING ON WHICH THE STATION IS LOCATED NO LONGER APPEARS TO BE THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING. AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN--IN THE TOWN OF DENTON.
