The pediment, high above the six columns fronting the main entrance, symbolizes the ideals of nationhood and embraces all of Canada.
Starting in the bottom left (east) corner:
- a nautical wheel represents the Atlantic Ocean
- the indolent man, with a half-kneeling figure representing the spirit of progress and beckoning the indolent one to come to the new land of promise
- the goddess Europa leading a bull, symbolizing Canada's European heritage and immigration
- a man, woman and child, symbolizing a family and colonization of a new land
- the pediment's central figure seated in the center is a female figure representing Manitoba with the rays of the sun behind her
- a man and a woman laden with wheat and fruit, products of the soil
- a muscular male figure with a team of powerful horses and a primitive plough tilling the soil
- a hand holding Neptune's trident represents the Pacific Ocean
- finally in the west corner are two entwined female figures representing the Red and Assiniboine Rivers
