Known locally as the Casino. The word originally meant a pavilion constructed for pleasure and this Casino was built buy James Thompson, a local wealthy merchant, as a reading room during the late 18th century.

The building has been a library, a reading room and a coastguard lookout. Now the octagonal Casino on Gun Hill at Southwold is a radio station. (visit link)
