Simmons Park - Edmond, OK - Citizen Memorials on Waymarking.com

Located at the intersection of 2nd Street and University, this area consists of a long curved brick wall with the name of the university, behind which are four flagpoles flying the flags of the United States, the State of Oklahoma, the City of Edmond and the University of Central Oklahoma.

Two curved , brick-lined pools each have three dancing fountains. A plaque at the left side reads:

In Loving Memory of their Parents

and
J. Wendell Simmons
April 9, 1987

A second plaque alongside reads:

Flags embody the sense of patriotism,
serve as a beacon of hope, and a reminder
of our history.
The flags of the United States of America,
the Great State of Oklahoma, the City of
Edmond, Oklahoma, and the University of
Central Oklahoma and displayed at this
entrance to the UCO campus to
symbolically identify the public support of
this institution of higher education by the
community, state, and nation.
The University family gratefully
acknowledges the gift of the Phillip
Parduhn family and Pelco Products Inc.
The effort of public spirited individuals,
companies, and groups is indispensable in
providing enrichment to the University
setting and tangible support to the
student body.
Keep all of the flags flying!

J. Wendell Simmons was the University's baseball coach for nineteen years, retiring in 2010. The school's baseball field was renamed for him.
