The town:
Thürnen is a municipality in the district of Sissach in the canton of Basel-Landschaft with a population of about 1,300.
Thürnen was first mentioned in 1101 as Durnum. In 1305 it became property of the bishop of Basel, in 1400 of the city of Basel. Since 1833 it is part of the canton Basel-Landschaft.
Today Thürnen is mainly a residential town with some agriculture and little local businesses. It is almost grown together with neighboring Sissach.
The town hall:
The town hall of Thürnen is located in the northeastern part of town that developed in th 1970s. The town hall was build 1971. It is a standard functional building of that era, without any remarkable features. The house also contains some apartments and in an annex is the local firehouse.
