The city Sec is found on the periphery of the Pardubice region in the district of Chrudim, the cadastre neighbours the region of Central Bohemia and Vysocina.
The settlement was established during internal colonisation of the Iron Mountains during the 12th and 13th century. The first documented reference to Sec dates back to 1318 and refers to the city as the property of ruler Venka of Sec. In 1499, Sec was named a town. In 1564, the estate of Valdstein and Oheb received the inheritance of Václav Robmhapov of Suché, who commissioned the construction of the chateau on the site of the former courtyard (first referred to in 1577). In 1596, Karel Záruba of Hustíran had the side wing added to the chateau and gave it its present Renaissance look.
Today the castle is the seat of the municipality.
