Formerly private Aquarena Center, now The Meadows Center with the University of Texas - San Marcos campus facilities. Multiple springs well up here to form the San Marcos River. Since 1946, 30-minute glass-bottom boat tours on the Spring Lake will see some of the 1,000 springs - and the inhabitants (bluegill sunfish, channel catfish, soft shell turtles, etc.).
To set expectations, "glass bottom" means that there is a 2'x20' slit in the boat hull for thick glass to see through the crystal clear waters. (Similar to an experience in the Bahamas.)
The captain's tales about the various springs, animals, and folks involved with this location are entertaining for the family. It's reality and not an animated screen.
List prices are $6-9 (children-adults), but find a coupon somewhere to knock a bit off the price.
