When taking the city of Zerbst in 1007 by
Boleslaw I. Chobry the fortification of the city was probably only
earthen walls and planks, possibly also from mud and stone buildings.
In the 14th century city wall with towers was mentioned in a document
on increasing and expanding. In 1420 the wall at the time of the
Hussite wars and the looting Mark Brandenburg robber barons was further
expanded. Between 1430 and 1434 the present city wall is eventually
built, where it was fully closed only in 1485. After the advent of
firearms in 1571, the battlements were provided with additional roof
and loopholes and got inside a timber. |
