The Gordon D. Schaber Courthouse is the main courthouse for Sacramento County. The courthouse contains the administrative offices of the court (including the Presiding Judge), and the general civil and criminal case processing support services of the court.

The building was constructed in 1965 and is located in downtown Sacramento occupying a city block bounded by 8th, 9th, G, and H Streets. It is a 44-courtroom, six-story building with a basement and contains approximately 291,000 square feet. The building serves as the main courthouse for the superior court and the court occupies the entire building. It was originally constructed with 22 courtrooms and has exceeded its capacity for many years as space has been converted into 22 additional courtrooms since 1965. A new criminal courthouse has been in the works and planned to be built across the street from the New Federal Courthouse. Those plans have been put on hold until the California Budget situation improves.

The Courthouse was named in honor of Schaber in 2002 for his "extensive contributions as a philanthropist, legal scholar and devoted community leader. Best known as the dean of the McGeorge School of Law for 34 years." Schaber died on Nov. 6, 1997. Some professional shots of the Courthouse are located here. Building plans and news articles are located here. This website has a history and pictures of all the Sacramento Courthouses, here.
