The OLD DUTCH HOUSE, facing the Green on 3rd St. between Harmony and Delaware Sts., it is believed by architects to have been built in the Dutch period.  Of brick, with low pent eaves, an over-large central chimney, and single quizzical little dormer, the house was bought in 1937 by the Delaware Society for the Preservation of Antiquities, for restoration and permanent preservation - Delaware: A Guide to the First State, 1938, pg 244.

The house is much as described in the Guide except the dormer is no longer present.  The house has been completely restored and is thought to be the only surviving building from the Dutch period, (Late 17th century), still existent in New Castle.  The house is now operated as a museum.
