~ text from "Kansas, a guide to the Sunflower state" ~
The Madonna of the Trail statue, dedicated to the pioneer women of the plains, was awarded to Council Grove as having the most interesting history of any town in the State. The 12-foot monument represents a pioneer woman holding an old-fashioned musket in one arm and a baby in the other, as a small boy clings to her skirts.
