Former military watchtower on Hungarian border near Neusiedlersee - was renovated by District 1910 of Rotary International in 1994 and turned into popular lookout tower, visited mainly by birdwatchers and wildlife observers.

Lookout tower (orig. Aussichtsturm) near Illmitz, Neusiedlersee and Seewinkel National Park, Austria

The first Waymark of Rotary International marker in Austria can be visited on eastern shore of lake Neusiedlersee, near small town Illmitz. It is 16 metres high lookout tower, till 1993 served for Hungarian army as watchtower on border - part of an Iron Curtain.

After its demolition it has been reconstructed in June 1994 by District 1910 of Rotary International organization. This is documented by plaque under the lookout tower with following text (translated, original is in the gallery) ...

Text is signed by Kurt Tenhalter, governor of distrikt 1910 and dated to 19th June 1994. Today, lookout tower serves especially for birdwatching from its platform 6 and half metres above ground.
