This small metallic plate is set near the whale fluke sculpture known as "Farewell" on the back side of the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
It reads:
"On this site stood the mansion of William
Rotch, Jr., built c. 1790 and moved to
Johnny Cake Hill in 1851, where it serves as
the Mariners' Home. In time, this property
passed to Peter J. Haste, a native of Greece,
whose generosity made possible its
acquisition bu the Old Dartmouth Historical
Society in 1971."

Visit Instructions:
When logging a Massachusetts Historic Marker, we ask that you not only describe your visit, but to upload a picture from it. The picture does not have to be of the marker - one picture of the marker is enough. But a photo of you standing next to the marker or a photograph the subject of the marker - those are examples of possible photographs to upload.
