The municipality of Napierville takes its English name of a soldier born in 1758 Napier Christie Burton (1758-1835). He had inherited lordships in the upper Richelieu in the death of his father, Gabriel Christie, in 17992.
Napier Christie married Mary Emma Burton in London in 1784. Following this union, he took the name of Napier Christie Burton.
During the rebellion of the Patriotes, Napierville was the 3000 Patriots camp. The city was also, for a few days, the de facto capital of the Republic of Lower Canada, following the Declaration of Independence of Lower Canada.
On 4 April 2009, Napierville changed his status to the village municipality of municipalité4.
