MX0998 - U.S. Forest Service BM - Siskiyou County, CA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Forest Service BM from 1931 in good condition. It's located near Herd triangulation station (MX0997) at the summit of Herd Mountain and near Herd Lookout House. There's an elevation stamping of '7060' on the disk face.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 (WRH) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 14 MILES AIRLINE NORTH NORTHEAST OF WEED, AND 3 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE GRASS LAKE RAILROAD SIDING, NEAR THE HERD MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT HOUSE. THE MARK IS A STANDARD U.S. FOREST SERVICE DISK STAMPED ELEV. 7060 1931. IT IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A BOULDER PROJECTING 18 INCHES, AND IS 6.447 FEET-1.965 METERS WEST OF STATION HERD.
