This Water Tower commemorates the 1954 Basketball State Championship won by Milan High School. The championship is significant as Milan was the smallest town ever to win the Indiana State Championship when it defeated the much larger Muncie Central High School. The 1986 movie “Hoosiers” is based on the story of the 1954 Championship Team. This water tower sits at the end of Mill Street on the west side of Milan. The words "STATE CHAMPS 1954" is still clearly visible on the tank.
