The deaf daughter of Professor Weaver is found dead whilst out jogging. She is found bt famous artist Sarah Gordon, who was out sketching in the mist. Inspector Lynley is despatched to investigate. There are several suspects. Her step mother didn’t like her, she was filing a complaint against her college tutor for sexual harassment, she was a wild child with many boyfriends, and she was 14 weeks pregnant.
Before Lynley can solve the murder, a second jogger is found dead. A breakthrough comes when a student comes forward with the theory that the second dead girl was killed in mistake for her. Apparently the student had seen the first murder from a distance. Crucially the murderer is a woman. Lynley works out that Sarah Gordon is the murderer. She had been Weaver’s mistress and sought to get back at him through the murder of his daughter.
