The owner bought bought a mile-long stretch of abandoned "right-of-way" near Lake Geneva and 43 retired cabooses from the Chicago & Northwestern and Milwaukee Road Railroad yards. They hitched all the cabooses together (1,410-tons) into one long train and moved it up the abandoned track to their location. Then they remodeled each into unique guest units. After 15 years, the owners decided to retire, and came up with the idea that people would like to own a caboose, so they sold all the units in two months. The End of the Line still functions like a hotel, though, because most of the cabooses are in a rental pool.
We just happened to be driving by, after finding a bunch of cabeese on the way up to Lake Geneva, and my wife said "Look at that!" Had to pull over!
NOTE: As a rule the caboose category management team have always requested submissions for each caboose individually even when grouped together. The reasoning for requesting individual waymarks for the individual cabooses is that every caboose has a unique history and identifying number. However, they have been gracious to realize that it would be impossible to waymark each caboose in this motel individually with its unique identification and so have approved this one-time exception.
