The clock tower sits about 75 feet above the actual rail station, which actually is below street level. The tower has four sides to it, giving a 360 degree view of the time. There is a lightning rod on top, to help against storm damage. Although, this is the site of the 2004 terrorist bombings, the train station is still busier, and stronger than ever before. This wikipedia entry is in English. "Madrid Atocha (Spanish: Estación de Madrid Atocha, also named Madrid Puerta de Atocha) is the largest railway station in Madrid. It is the primary station serving commuter trains (Cercanías), intercity and regional trains from the south, and the AVE high speed trains from Barcelona (Catalonia), Zaragoza (Aragon), Seville (Andalusia) and Valencia (Levante Region). These train services are run by the Spanish national rail company, Renfe."
