"Loren Coburn, one of the most notorious characters in San Mateo Coast History. Born in Vermont in ic Francisco in 1851. By 1872 he had adcro and become the largest landowner area. He kept the courts busy with disputes over Land,. Coburn died of pneumonia on. November 14, 1918. ;ix months later his wife Sarah was murdered. Her killing remains a mystery.

In the 189os Coburn built a large hotel overlooking Pebble Peach. With hot and cold running water, it was very modern for its day. Construction was plagued with problems and halted by the 1906 earthquake. It stood empty for years waiting for the Ocean Shore Railway to be completed. The holds only overnight guests may have been the guards hired to prevent vandalism by angry townspeople. The building finally burned down and was removed to make way for Highway I."
