Originally standing at North 4th Street and W. Choctaw Avenue, this frame building was first constructed as a tool storage house during the construction of the Territorial Courthouse. It functioned as a three-cell jail from 1895 - 1900.
The building is constructed of 2 x 4's stacked one on another, and originally had a concrete block foundation. Moved from its original location, it stood in Shannon Springs Park for years. Today, it is located on the grounds of the Santa Fe Depot on the east side of Chickasha. The building is listed in the Oklahoma Landmarks Inventory database. (

This is a one-story rectangular building, with a gabled, wood-shingled roof. A large door opening on the west side has been infilled in years past with wood 2x4's leaving a single pedestrian door. There are two small windows on the west, and three on the east. They are all equipped with steel bars.
It's difficult to imagine what it must have been like in one of those cells, with little air circulation, during 100 degree plus August afternoons in 1895.
