In Belmont, near a baseball field and tennis court, is this stone marker for Lt. Francis X. Glacken, who was killed in duty in Tokyo, Japan, and a taller sign stating that this is the Glacken Playground.

The marker is in a municipal park near the club house for the municipal golf course. The nearest street intersection is Huron Avenue and Cushing Street.

The text on the marker is as follows:

"In Memory of
Francis X. Glacken
U.S.A.A.F.
Born March 2, 1920
Died in the Service
of His Country
Over Tokyo, May 24, 1945"

The sign for the Francis X. Glacken has similar information on it.

A web site about the 'Z Square 7 Crew' has this about Glacken:

"Lt Glacken was born on March 2, 1920 in Cambridge, Ma. A tall, handsome six-foot-three giant, he became park supervisor working with the neighborhood kids to help pay his college tuition. He went to Holy Cross where he was a math major, a football great and a good bridge player, graduating in 1941. He answered the Army Air Corps call for pilots in 1942. Lt Glacken's plane was shot down on his wife's birthday, May 24th 1945. They had two daughters, Barbara and Cynthia."

Z Square 7 was a B29 bomber, part of a massive mission over Tokyo, Japan. There were over 500 B29 bombers on this mission. It is not known what happened to this plane, nor the exact determination of each crew member.
