Location: The official address for Ev Tremblay Park is 108 Beech Street, Ottawa, Ontario. This family-oriented, community park is located in the West Centre Town neighbourhood of western Ottawa; the neighbourhood, part of Ottawa’s Kitchissippi ward, is sometimes also known as Ev Tremblay Park because, in Ottawa, the real-estate designation for a neighbourhood often derives from the local parks. The colour scheme for some of the park’s picnic tables and benches reflects the park’s proximity to Ottawa’s Little Italy neighbourhood. In terms of Ottawa’s major traffic arteries, Ev Tremblay Park is about 300 meters southwest from where Preston Street crosses under the Queensway (“the 417”). The park sits just to the west of Ottawa’s north-south commuter rail line, with a sturdy fence separating the two. An official City of Ottawa park sign bearing the 108 Beech Street address appears at the park’s main entrance on the northern edge of the park. There is another, un-signed, entrance on the west from Champagne Avenue South.
Description: Ev Tremblay Park takes its name from Ev Tremblay, co-founder of the Cradle League, an important part of Ottawa’s minor hockey league history. It is a relatively small park, rectangular in shape, roughly 50 meters east to west, and 70 meters north to south. It is situated on the southeast corner of the intersection of Beech Street and Champagne Avenue South.
Despite its small size, Ev Tremblay Park contains a variety of facilities that make it a valuable, heavily used, addition to the neighbourhood. The park contains an asphalt basketball court contiguous with an area used for both road hockey and bike polo, with the park serving as the official home of the “Mallets of Mayhem" bike polo club. The park includes a wading pool that is open in the summer, with changing rooms available next to it in the park’s utility building. In the winter, there is an ice rink suitable for hockey. Ev Tremblay Park also has a separate picnic area, as well as a bocce pit, though the pit has not been well maintained. Smaller children enjoy the park’s play structure and its swing set. The portion of the park not devoted to specific recreation facilities is maintained as a mowed lawn.
Ev Tremblay Park appears in the City of Ottawa's official database of municipal parks. (See link URL.) It is searchable on Google Earth, and Google Maps, with several images of the park from both Beech Street and Champagne Avenue South available via Google Maps’ Street View feature.
