One of the oldest still standing buildings in all of Madrid. This was the town hall for Madrid, until it was moved to near the Museo del Prado. The plaza can be dated back to the Medieval times. It was named Plaza de San Salvador because of the nearby church that was associated with it. It was also used as a jail. Construction began in 1645 and wasn't completed until 1696.Royal Greater Coat of Arms of Spain, 1700-1761-Common Version with the Collars of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Order of the Holy Spirit
