The Hawkes Block housed a store and an apartment. It burned to the ground in 1895, due to a barn in the back of the building catching fire. Hawkes rebuilt the store in the same year. It housed 2 stores on the first floor, the Conway Club on the second and an assembly room for the Wequonock Redmen tribe on the third. Hawkes operated a drug store in the building until he died in 1915.
