1st Marker: ILLINOIS -- IMMIGRANTIn 1817 - Henry Eddy published the first newspaper in Shawneetown by the appointment of President Monroe

HISTORIC SITEHere Henry Eddy and Allen Kimmel published the
first issue of the Illinois Emigrant, Illinois second newspaper, in June 1818.
Note: not only the newspaper name is different, but the dates are different. And research shows that the publishing of the first issue was, maybe December 1818, but most researchers believe it was September 1818. No one is quite sure.
Also, read the web link, and see even the Kimmel's name is not for sure.
